Cold case back open after bones found

MONTVILLE, Conn. (WTNH) -- A month and a half after the skeletal remains of a missing Norwich woman were found police are back in the area where she was found.

This time, Norwich police, State Police, and the FBI were trying to find out if anyone saw anything suspicious.

More than 70 investigators went door to door, covering a mile radius surrounding the spot where 26-year-old Erika Cirioni's skeletal remains were found on March 18 off of Oxoboxo Dam Road. The discovery came five years after the Norwich mother of two disappeared on December 31, 2006.

"I mean it's disrupted the whole neighborhood when stuff like that happens in a neighborhood, especially a community like this," said Michael Brycki. "It's a big deal."

Investigators are hoping to find out any information which will lead to answers into Cirioni's death and disappearance.
 
"They just asked if I see anything cause I come home from work that way," said Grafton Gardiner. "And I just told them I never see much on that road at all."

Chief Louis Fusaro says the littlest detail can sometimes break open a case.

"Everyone in neighborhoods, they see things and they may not think they're important," he said.
    
The chief is confident the Cold Case Unit will be able to provide answers to Cirioni's family. Norwich police have never given up on this case and their efforts now are also appreciated by those in the neighborhood who may have seen something which could connect the dots for police.

"We want to bring closure to Erika's mother, her family, and her friends," said Chief Fusaro.

"Definitely makes us feel safer," said Brycki.

Police left flyers with a picture of Erika Cirioni at the houses where no one was home.
