HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut officials are reaching out to volunteers to report invasive plants and animals at their local boat launches.

The Department of Energy & Environmental Protection , Old Lyme Conservation Commission and Rogers Lake Authority say training is available for volunteers.

The training, which is set for Saturday, will educate volunteers and boaters about how to identify and detect invasive species.

Invasive animals include zebra mussels, which were discovered in Lake Zoar and Lake Lillinonah on October 2010. This was the first new report of zebra mussels in Connecticut since 1998 when they were discovered in East and West Twin Lakes in Salisbury.

Training will be at the Rogers Lake West Shores Association Club House in Old Lyme.
