Cop gets on roof, all for a good cause

NORWICH, Conn. (WTNH) -- One cop is going on top, of a roof that is. She's not fighting crime though, it's all for charity.

Officer Michelle Wyatt is more than pretty prepared. At five o'clock Friday, she climbed up on to the roof at Dodd Stadium and doesn't come down until she raises $2,500 for Special Olympics Connecticut. Not as easy as it may look.

"People wouldn't believe that by the time I come off the roof I'm tired and I'm sore," said Norwich Officer Michelle Wyatt, "every muscle and bone in my body is aching."

This is not the first time such a stunt is taking place.

"It could take three days, last year it did," explained Jackie Turro of Connecticut Special Olympics. "Come out and help us out."

The money will help 1,300 athletes with intellectual disabilities compete in 27 different year-round events.

Officer Wyatt does more than just take in a Connecticut Tigers game while she's up here.

"During the game I don't sit at all. I'll be up talking to kids, waving at kids, throwing stuff off the building, t-shirts, hats, necklaces, things like that," said Wyatt.

Officer Wyatt also takes donations from right up on the roof. She even has an apparatus that helps with that.

Basically, an arm goes out and then there's a rope with a bucket at the end that goes down, so that she can reel the bucket and the donations right back up.

She hopes to reel up the bucket a lot during the games and when the crowds are gone, there's plenty of time to think.

"I hope it will cool off and this year, I hope it's not gonna rain," she says. She just wants to remember that it's all for a good cause.
