Montville, Conn. (WTNH) - A Montville man got an early morning wake-up call from his daughter who is working in Japan.
Shaun Tine says it was horrible seeing the destruction on TV. At least a thousand people are presumed dead after the 8.9 earthquake rocked the island nation sending a wall of water across the northeast coast. Tine's 22 year old daughter Stephanie is in Tokyo's Roppongi financial district working for Goldman Sachs. She's on the 40th floor.
"The big one hit and they all they brought everyone into the center of the building away from the windows and they had to stay there for actually three or four hours until all the aftershocks were through. She was very scared," Tine said.
More aftershocks came when he was talking with her on the phone. Those she is used to, but what she felt while at work was very different.
"The building was actually shaking up and down and sideways and it was very scary," Tine said.
Tine is now answering many calls and worried friends and family are posting messages on Stephanie's Facebook page. Her dad decided to post his own message to ease some of those concerns.
"I said sorry that I was sleeping through the whole thing when you called me this morning to tell me you were okay," he said.
