NORWICH, Conn. (WTNH)-- A drunk driver hit a utility pole in Norwich Saturday night, causing a power outage and closed roads for those in the area.

Police say, Mark Olszewski, hit a utility pole near Boswell Avenue and Ruth Street around 6:15 PM. The impact knocked wires down, causing a power outage for those two streets as well as Mohegan Park Road.

Norwich Public Utilities and SNET were on the scene and restored service early Sunday morning. There were 600 people affected from the down wires.

Some roads in the area remain closed.

Olszewski was uninjured and charged with operating under the influence, failure to drive right and interfering with an officer.

He is being held on $2,500 bond.
