NORWICH, Conn. (AP) -- A 1,000-gallon fuel spill in Preston two years ago has led to lawsuits and now town governments in the region are asking the state to pay the clean-up costs.
The Bulletin reports that the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has told the Southeast Area Transit that the bus company is at fault and asked that $262,000 in cleanup costs be paid by Nov. 14.
The spill occurred at the transit agency's Preston headquarters.
SEAT is involved in a lawsuit with the state Department of Transportation over the lawsuit.
Meriden-based United Industrial Services began cleaning up the site in 2010. It sued the regional transit agency, seeking $415,000 for allegedly not paying remediation costs.
Ten towns, including Griswold, Groton and Norwich, are members of the regional agency/
