New London, Conn. (WTNH) - This dentist's office is putting smiles on the faces of kids and their parents.
Magdala Chery was happily surprised when she brought her son to the dentist in New London. She found out it was "Give Kids A Smile" day which means free care for those who are uninsured and under insured.
"Actually we'd have to pay out of pocket, so it's good to come here," said Chery. "Now my other son is actually getting to get his teeth clean for free so it's actually awesome."
The event which provides free cleanings, oral exams, and more is part of National Children's Dental Health Month. No co-pay day put a smile on a lot of faces.
"Normally I see a lot of patients when they come in when it's almost too late when they have a lot of pain," said Dr. Edgar Heil. "Instead of the routine, we'd like to see them more routinely. We try to ecourage that."
Good habits not lost on a soon-to-be eleven-year-old who hates candy.
"Now I'm in the process of getting my teeth fixed and I"m really excited,' said Emily Pinto.
Most of the kids didn't have one cavity, but if they did they would have been able to get that cavity filled as well.
