Groton base to mark July 4th with 21-gun salute

GROTON, Conn. (AP) — The Navy's base in Groton is marking Independence Day with a 21-gun salute.

A saluting battery at the Naval Submarine Base will fire a single round volley at 30-second intervals beginning at noon on Wednesday.

The base is joining other military installations around the United States in marking the 236th anniversary of independence.

The salute will take place at a weapons compound at the base and is not open to members of the general public.
