GROTON, Conn. (AP) — An 84-year-old Navy veteran from Groton is receiving medals he earned more than six decades ago in World War II.

U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney on Friday is presenting Edward Beebe with medals he lost decades ago as well as others he never received. The congressman's office says Beebe's family contacted him to ask for help securing the medals.

Beebe enlisted in the Navy in September 1944. He served aboard a Navy destroyer that participated in assaults in the Philippines and Japan.

He later worked at Groton-based Electric Boat for 30 years until his retirement in 1980.

Courtney is presenting Beebe with medals including an American Theater Medal, a World War II Victory Medal and a Combat Action ribbon.
