Groton, Conn. (WTNH) - For some, it has become an annual tradition to try and be the first customer of the season at a Groton lobster shack.
Tyler Lynch, his sister Courtney, his mom, dad, and dog Max were the first to arrive at Abbott's Lobster in the Rough in Noank Wednesday night. A whole day earlier than their closest competitors. That's right -- the Lynch family spent two nights in their SUV.
The Lynch family was finally first in line; they had been second and then third in the last couple of years. This year was extra special because it was Courtney's sweet 16.
As the first customers of the season, they'll get t-shirts, a gift certificate, and a place in Abbott's history.
"It's always a big deal for the staff a couple days before we open who do you think is gonna be first this year when do you thing they're going to get here," said Deirdre Mears, Abbott's.
Deirdre says on a hot, sunny Saturday she could possible sell about a thousand lobster rolls.
