NORWICH, Conn. (WTNH)-- A Montville man was killed after hitting a tree off a highway in Norwich, Saturday morning.
Police say an on-duty trooper was traveling northbound on I-395 and just passed Exit 80 around 9:47 AM, when he saw that a white van had traveled off the right side of the highway and hit a large tree.
Shane R. Sweeney, 20, the only occupant of the van, died from his injuries despite extrication efforts of the East Great Plains Fire Department.
The impact of the tree caused a severe intrusion to the passenger side of the van.
The van was registered to Wisconsin Bell Inc., which is a subsidiary of AT&T.
The accident still remains under investigation.
