Montville home tangled in wires

MONTVILLE, Conn. (WTNH) -- Wires came down around one Montville home almost a year ago, and residents are still dealing with safety concerns and wire problems.  

At the time, crews jerry-rigged the lines back up, but it wasn't a permanent fix.

Leo Pond says a problem with the internet service revealed a bigger problem with the power line leading to his mother's Oakdale home.

"They look around they go 'Oh my god. You have a major problem back here,'" Pond said.

He tells News 8 because the cable and power lines are tangled in the same bush, there's internet interference, but also a hazard.

"They've been promising they were going to come up and clear all through the road here, cause it's bad with the wires and they never came back," Noella Pond said.

On Friday night a CL&P technician came by and Noella Pond told him about the bush and another concern. That same power line is suspended by a piece of rope attached to her house. A temporary fix after a storm last year knocked down a pole. It has been replaced, but the wire was not reattached.

The Ponds are most concerned that the weight of the bush will become too much for the power line and the rope, which is holding it up. They fear that if that rope breaks the live wire will come right down on to the porch.

The Ponds haven't heard back from CL&P, so News 8's Tina Detelj gave the company a call.

"We're wondering if anything can be done to help these folks," she said on the phone.

She got a quick response and was assured an operations person and possibly an arborist would be by to take a look. But that's not all, a short time later Leo Pond tells News 8 a tree company came by and told him they should be able to cut a hole in the growth to free up the cables.

"I thought if anybody is going to get it done it's going to be you," Noella Pond said to Detelj.

CL&P took action after we had the Ponds' back.
