MYSTIC, Conn. (AP) — Two of Connecticut's major tourist attractions are planning expansion projects.

The Day of New London reports that Mystic Aquarium and Mystic Seaport have each submitted building applications to the Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission.

The Seaport is seeking approval to construct a 20,000-square foot exhibit hall at the north end of its property. Officials say they need more space to display items from its collection and from traveling exhibits.

The Seaport also plans a new visitor entry and ticketing pavilion at its north gate.

The aquarium is looking to build a research building next to its Aquatic Animal Study Center. The two-story, $1.2 million building would replace the trailers that are currently being used by its scientists. It would require eliminating about 33 parking spaces.
