NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) - A sports administrator at universities in Texas and Indiana has been picked as the U.S. Coast Guard Academy's new athletics director.

Timothy Fitzpatrick comes to the New London academy from Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi, where he is athletics director.

Before that job, he was senior associate athletics director at Indiana University, and previously was assistant athletics director at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.

Fitzpatrick's appointment was announced Friday. He succeeds Ray Cieplik, who retired this summer after 40 years at the Coast Guard Academy.

The academy has 23 intercollegiate teams, most of which compete in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference.
