New London, Conn. (WTNH) - It's been a day full of celebration for many, and the weather is certainly cooperating.
People have been flocking to St. Patrick's Day events all over the state.
Led by New London police chief and grand marshal Margaret Ackley, Wednesday was the third annual St. Patrick's Day Parade.
"[We] appreciate the citizens coming out and participating. It was just a beautiful day; the sun came out shining. You couldn't ask for a better day and everybody loves a parade," said New London Police Chief Margaret Ackley.
The New London High School band strutted its stuff along State Street as did New London firefighters, police officers, and many others on the three block stretch.
"I love it; it's a short parade but it's awesome. It's so much fun to see everybody. We have a really good time," said Robin Olbrys of Waterford.
"The only thing I wish they had [were the] children out of school so everybody could have seen it," said Millie Deurloo of Waterford.
Many were marching to the beat of these drummers.
"This is the biggest turnout ever," said Organizer Dermott Hanafin.
Hanafin owns the Irish bar at the end of the route; it's a parade he started and hopes will grow beyond his business to include many more in the community.
They say on St. Patrick's Day everyone is Irish especially if you're wearing a little green.
