A two alarm blaze has been knocked down at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.

The fire started around 10am in one of the underground power generators, outside the Emergency Room. CL&P crews were on scene trying to assess what caused the fire. They say about 2,000 people in the New London and Waterford area lost power for a short time because they operate on the same circuit as the hospital.

About 75 patients in the Emergency Room were relocated to another section of the hospital. All elective surgeries have been canceled and visitors are not being allowed in the building.

No one was injured.
