Stonington (WTNH) - After spending nearly 12 hours scouring the town, Stonington police find the missing woman they had been looking for.
Magen Kathleen Greenhalgh, 20, was found in Groton but not before an extensive search at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic.
"We had 40 to 45 firefighters here today from nine departments in the area and we did what we call a baseline search," said Chief Ken Richards of the Mystic Fire Department. "Everybody lines up, stays in visible contact and we just walk through a grid."
That search was on after a friend of the Mystic woman said she had gone into the cemetery at about 10 p.m. Monday and never came out. When she was nowhere to be found, Tuesday morning the search intensified. All 25 to 30 acres of the cemetery, along with the shoreline along the Mystic River and a pond, were searched with purpose.
"We also have some additional concerns about her needing some medication," said Captain Jerry Desmond of the Stonington Police Department.
It turns out Greenhalgh wasn't there after all. Instead she was at a home in Groton; the next town over. The search may not have led to her but the police department's effort to get the word out apparently did.
In addition to the physical search, Stonington police got the word out through the media and through emails sent to residents and businesses.
