NORTH STONINGTON, Conn. (AP) — North Stonington's Board of Education is seeking an audit of the district's finances over concerns about possible misuse of credit cards, grant money, reimbursements and professional development money.
The Day of New London reports that officials did not identify who may have misused public money.
Board member Robert Testa says the district's business manager found discrepancies in spending, which also were discovered in a recent annual audit of the district's budget.
He said that if officials determine that reimbursements were not legitimate, he wants to look for other irregularities. For example, he said that inadvertently using a credit card authorized only for work instead of a personal credit card is a mistake once, but not if it's done several times.
