WESTERLY, R.I. (AP) — An online petition seeking a FBI investigation into the death of a Connecticut man who died after being released from police custody in Westerly has garnered more than 2,400 signatures.

The Westerly Sun reports the petition was launched by a woman who was at the Westerly bar where 34-year-old Ryan O'Loughlin was before his arrest in June 2011.

The Mystic resident died 16 hours after his arrest outside the bar. An autopsy conducted by the Connecticut medical examiner found O'Loughlin had internal bleeding, liver lacerations and bruises and abrasions to his arms, legs and torso.

A Rhode Island grand jury decided against bringing criminal charges against police officers involved in the arrest.

Attorney Mark Dana says he has notified Westerly officials of plans by O'Loughlin's family to sue.
