Montville, Conn. (WTNH) -- Bones found in a wooded area in Montville have been identified as human.

On Sunday, police were notified of a suspicious finding in a wooded area off Oxoboxo Dam Road.

Upon arrival, police discovered what appeared to be human bones, and human skeletal remains that were partially buried.

The access road to Oxoboxo Dam Road was closed to traffic as of 6 a.m. Monday, as police and medical experts document the area. The area is now being treated as a crime scene.

Police are expected to be on the scene through Wednesday.

The remains will be taken to the Chief State's Medical Examiner where a post mortem examination will be conducted.

The investigation is ongoing.
