Norwich, Conn. (WTNH) - A 9-year police veteran was involved in a shooting on Oneco Street in Norwich on Tuesday night.

Officer Greg McDonald's gun discharged during a scuffle with three suspects outside a home at 89 Oneco Street.

McDonald and two other officers were called to the scene to break up a fight, but suspect Fernando Velasquez became combative.

While McDonald tried to arrested Velasquez, police say McDonald's gun was discharged.

Velasquez underwent surgery, but is expected to recover.

All three police officers were treated for minor injuries.

Police say the incident is under investigation.
