UNCASVILLE, Conn. (WTNH) -- Tragedy strikes a worker at Mohegan Sun. State police say 62-year-old Pui Yi Li was in a crosswalk in front of the casino's public safety building when she was hit by a bus run by the Tribal Sun Bus Company.
"That's bad news, so bad, we feel upset. Yesterday we got day off, we didn't know it," one woman said.
Li suffered traumatic facial and head injuries. She later died at the William Backus Hospital. State police will determine if the bus driver 38-year-old Lin Qi Si of Braintree, Massachusetts will face charges.
"Is it dangerous to walk around there," News 8's Tina Detelj said.
"I think so, yeah," the woman said.
Over the years the tribe has paid for improvements to try to keep its employees safe like adding sidewalks where there never were any before and also adding a crosswalk.
A few years ago another employee was killed by a hit-and-run driver while crossing the street.
Changes were made with the large number of employees, many of them Asian, who walk to work.
Li listed a home address of Elmhurst, New York but she is also believed to have lived locally.
"Everybody feel sad," the woman said.
A spokesperson for Mohegan Sun said in a statement "We are deeply saddened by this loss and our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time."
News 8 also contacted the Tribal Sun Bus Company out of Rockland, Massachusetts to find out if the driver is still behind the wheel and after being put on hold for several minutes, the line was disconnected.
