Suspect gets stuck in chimney

NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH) --A suspect wanted by New London Police for third degree burglary got stuck in a chimney in an attempt to get away from police.

When police officers responded to Southeastern Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependency on Coit Street, the suspect they were looking for fled the scene on foot.

The suspect, Dean Lachappelle, 18, ran into an occupied apartment on Home Street then climbed on the roof.

Lachappelle climbed down the chimney in an attempt to hide from police.

Officers and canines searched the apartment for Lachappelle. During the search they heard screaming coming from the chimney.

The local fire department was called to the scene to assist in getting Lachappelle out of the chimney.

Lachappelle was taken to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. He will be charged with burglary and interfering with police. His bond has been set at $75,000. He will be arraigned on April 9.
