NORWICH, Conn. (WTNH) -- Two Norwich police officers are recovering after an accident involving a police cruiser and a pickup truck.

It happened Thursday night around 11:15 on Prospect Street.

According to police, Officer Kenneth Wright and Officer Christopher Nott were conducting a motor vehicle stop in the area of Boswell Ave. and Seventh St. After a short interaction, the driver of the vehicle, 24-year-old Romance W. Brown, sped away at a high rate of speed.

A brief chase occurred onto Prospect St., at which time officers ended the pursuit and lost sight of the vehicle as it was traveling south on Prospect St.

Police said Brown turned onto a parallel street and began to travel north, in the direction of the officers who were no longer pursuing the vehicle.

According to police, Brown then turned left, failed to stop at a stop sign, and collided with Officer Wright and Nott's vehicle at the intersection of Prospect St. and Tenth St.

Both officers were injured in the crash and were taken to Backus Hospital for treatment. They were both released a short time later.

Brown was also taken to Backus Hospital to be treated for minor injuries and later released.

Police said three parked vehicles in the area of Prospect St. and Tenth St. were damaged as a result of the crash.

Brown, of 191 Laurel Hill Ave., Norwich, was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, reckless driving, interfering with an officer, failure to obey a stop sign, and engaging a police pursuit.

Bond was set at $100,000.

A passenger in Brown's vehicle was also arrested for charges unrelated to the crash.
