Water-related death at Bluff Point

GROTON, Conn. (WTNH) -- A body of a female was found inside Bluff Point State Park and she was pronounced dead at the scene, police say.

The body was found by a witness who was driving in the area and he reported it to police. State Police responded to the scene.

EMS also responded and pronounced the female dead at the scene. The area was secured by police and DEEP officers assisted with the initial investigation.

State Police Major Crime Detectives were assigned to respond and conduct the investigation into this death.

State Police Detectives examined and documented the entire scene. Troopers seized both physical and forensic evidence at the scene.

Investigators conducted interviews of witnesses in this investigation.

An examination of the deceased will be conducted by the Office of the Chief States Medical Examiner to determine the manner and cause of death.

At this point, it is being considered an untimely, water-related death.
