STONINGTON, Conn. (AP) - A southeastern Connecticut town committee charged with managing the local harbor is in disarray after its last remaining member has resigned.
The Westerly Sun reports that Steven Schaub said he resigned for personal reasons. But he also said it was frustrating that Stonington officials have not approved a plan for the Pawcatuck River Harbor.
The plan recommends how to increase public access to the river, establishes policies and specifications for moorings and spells out the duties of the harbormaster.
First Selectman Edward Haberek Jr. said the plan was held after the 2009 election to give the new selectmen time to read it. He says meeting agendas have been too full to consider it.
Without a plan, the town has no authority over the river. The state now controls the Connecticut side of the river.
