Hartford (AP) - Connecticut's Supreme Court has upheld a Hartford man's murder conviction in the fatal shooting of an East Hampton man over a drug transaction.

The court unanimously rejected 22-year-old Rhondell Bonner's appeal in a decision issued Tuesday. He is serving a 61-year sentence in the shooting of 31-year-old Scott Houle on Dec. 29, 2002.

Authorities have said the shooting occurred when Houle tried to buy cocaine from Bonner in Hartford and they fought over payment.

The case made headlines when Hartford police initially misidentified Bonner as another man and erroneously notified that man's family of his death. Houle had been driving that friend's car and had the man's license and registration at the time he was killed.
