East Hampton (AP) - East Hampton police say a standoff has ended with the death of a
man who committed suicide sometime after police arrived at the
scene.
Police say the incident was reported about 3 p.m. Wednesday
as a suicidal man with a gun. Police say the man had reportedly
barricaded himself in a second floor bedroom in a home on Main
Street.
Nearby homes were evacuated and units secured the scene, but
police were not able to contact the man. Tear gas was used and did
not generate any reaction from the man.
Police say that shortly after midnight they entered the home
and found the man dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police have not released the 44-year-old man's name.
