Greenwich (AP) - Postal Service officials say a Greenwich mail carrier has been suspended following his arrest on a charge of driving a work vehicle under the influence.

Police say Charles Smith, 54, of Milford was arrested after postal special agents requested their help in dealing with an intoxicated worker in the parking lot of the Greenwich postal facility.

Postal Service officials told police that Smith appeared intoxicated while driving the vehicle on Dec. 4. Police who responded to the parking lot say they found Smith inside the vehicle with glassy, bloodshot eyes and there was a strong alcohol odor.

Police say Smith failed a series of field sobriety tests. Officers booked him at the police station, and he posted $250 bail.
