Hartford (AP) - Connecticut lawmakers are considering a compromise to help some communities that have taken down their Web sites rather than comply with a new law that requires them to post public information online.

The towns are Bethlehem, Burlington, Colebrook, Harwinton, Killingworth, Litchfield, Lyme, Middlefield and Voluntown.

They say they lack the technology or money to comply with the new law, which went into effect five months ago.

State Rep. James Spallone, a Democrat from Essex, says lawmakers may pass an amendment that would give the towns more time to comply. It would also allow the state Freedom of Information Commission to grant waivers for noncompliance.
