New Haven (AP) - New Haven police say a convicted sex offender from Pennsylvania has been charged with beating and raping a woman over the weekend.
Robert Thompson, 49, was arrested at his temporary job in North Haven Tuesday and charged with first-degree sexual assault, first-degree kidnapping, assault and threatening.
Police say the woman told police that she was walking down Sherman Avenue early Saturday when she was approached by Thompson.
She says Thompson led her to a house where he punched her in the face repeatedly and sexually assaulted her. Police say the woman escaped and flagged down a police officer when her attacker fell asleep.
A Robert Thompson on the Pennsylvania sex registry database shows he was convicted of rape in 1990 and is from Philadelphia.
