Seymour (AP) - A 21-year-old Oxford man is being held on charges from a stymied purse grabbing at a Seymour shopping plaza, foiled by a group of angry women.

Police say Max Turk had tried to grab a 74-year-old woman's purse after knocking her down and dragging her over the weekend.

The woman cried out for help and police say several women called 911, followed Turk and surrounded his car to stop him from getting away.

Police say Turk jumped out of the car and was nabbed, wet and muddy, after sprinting through woods and a brook.

Turk appeared in Derby Superior Court and, according to the Judicial Web site Wednesday, is being held on a $250,000 bond.
