News Channel 8's caught up with Connecticut's own Brooke Burke to talk about her Dancing With the Stars win and what's up next for the model and television host.
Burke won the Dancing With the Stars title Wednesday night after dazzling the audience with her sizzling moves. Now the Connecticut native, who was back in town for Thanksgiving, says she has the people here at home to thank.
"Thank you so much to everybody in Connecticut who voted," Brooke said.
Brooke has a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving weekend and she's starting with her family. All through the competition on ABC's Dancing with the Stars she says they campaigned everywhere they could to call in the votes.
"I'm so happy with the way it ended. I never thought I would actually make it to the finals. So it was thrilling and such an accomplishment," she said.
Not bad for a Nutmeg girl with no previous dance experience. Truth be told, Brooke and her cousins admitted to us that she did do some dancing when they were kids on the beach in Clinton, dreaming they were the stars from the musical "Grease". Those childhood antics came full circle for Brooke when she danced to "You're the One That I Want" the final week of DWTS.
"We used to do auditions for the Olivia Newton-John part to do the song "You're the One that I Want". When I got to dance that in the freestyle, that was a little girl's dream. And that's what won it all," Brooke said.
So what do you do after winning it all?
"I'm sort of trying to check out of reality right now and relax, recover. But it was an amazing three months."
The judges and the audience agree -- it was amazing. Despite making it look easy, Burke says there were times when she thought she couldn't do it. She credits here family for giving her the strength to continue.
"Would I do it again? Um, yeah, I'd do it again. But not right now," Brooke laughed.
Brooke says despite winning, she will not go on tour with Dancing With the Stars because she wants to spend more time with her children. She does plan to make some guest appearances.
