New Haven (WTNH) - Clients of a Stratford attorney John Rodia want to know where he
is and why he has left them in a legal lurch.
Debi Hirth has known Attorney John Rodia for 20-years and
considered him a friend. But for months now she's been unable to
get in touch with him despite the fact she had an upcoming court
date in connection to a law suit she's involved with. Last week she
went to his Stratford Office.
"I asked a young gentleman if John was in. He said to me 'No'. I
felt bad for this kid because all of a sudden he got this perplexed
look on his face and he said he didn't know where John was and he
didn't know when John was coming back or quite frankly whether he
was ever coming back," Hirth said.
Also missing from the office - her case file.
Last week, News Channel 8 found Rodia's office locked up and
dark. We went see Rodia after interviewing a Prospect couple who
have also been unable to contact the attorney. Thomas and Deborah
Turner allege that Rodia failed to pay off their old mortgage after
a refinancing and the couple is now in danger of losing their
home.
Today, we went to the Seymour home of the attorney. No one was
there, but from the front door we were able to see through a window
what appears to be stacks of legal files.
Where is John Rodia? We tried asking his sister who worked at
his office as a paralegal, but she is not talking.
Attorney General Richard Blumenthal has begun investigating
Rodia's law practice and he's also contacting different law
enforcement agencies to find out what happened to Rodia
himself.
