A plane flying out of Bradley International Airport had to make an emergency landing shortly after it took off Sunday morning because of a smoke odor in the cabin.
Southwest Airlines Flight 693 landed at the MacArthur Airport on Long Island at 7:55 a.m., said FAA spokesman Jim Peters. The plane had left Bradley at 7:21 and was heading to Orlando.
131 passengers and five crewmembers were evacuated from the 737. There were no reports of injuries, but EMS and fire officials were at the scene as a precaution.
After investigating, FAA officials determined that the smoke coming from the rear cabin of the plane was coffee grounds in a coffee pot; there was no electrical problem or fire.
The passengers boarded another flight and continued their trip to Florida shortly before 10 a.m., said Peters.
A spokesman from Southwest said the plane was taken out of service and would be examined.
