Bridgeport (WTNH) - Christians all over the world are marking this Good Friday by going to church. But in Bridgeport one church took the tradition of the Stations of the Cross outside into the streets.
This is the first time the Golden Hill United Methodist Church has walked the Stations of the Cross outside on the sidewalks.
"It was important for us to experience Jesus' walk on this Good Friday," said Rev. Taka Ishii, United Methodist Church.
The devotional procession is to mark the key moments in the suffering of Jesus as he walked to his death by crucifixtion.
Children and teens wearing the dress of those times followed the cross made from two large branches. Eleven year old Michael Sibluiprusak says some folks stared - others surprised him.
"One person on a motorcycle he did the sign of the cross and turned off his motorcycle and I think that was very nice," Michael said.
The Stations are an age old story children are often told - but this hands-on approach, actually carrying the cross, seems to make the religious lesson more understandable.
"You both learn things about jesus and what happened and what he did to help other people," Michael said.
The church was so pleased with today's response that they are hoping to have Stations of the Cross outside again next year.
