Hartford (WTNH) - A 6-year-old boy was serious burned in Hartford after a sparkler ignited his clothes on the Fourth of July.

Police say at around 8:30 Saturday night on Broad View Terrace, the boy was waving around a sparkler under the supervision of his uncle.

The sparkler somehow set his clothes on fire, burning him. He suffered second and third degree burns over 15 percent of his body.

The child was flown by Lifestar to Shriners Hospital in Boston. Staff there said his injuries were not life-threatening.

Police say the sparkler is legal to use, but not by a 6-year-old.
