Four suspected cases of swine flu in CT

East Haddam (WTNH) - There are four suspected cases of swine flu in three Connecticut towns. Most recently reported is that all Wethersfield schools are reported to be closed Wednesday.

Gov. Jodi Rell said in an afternoon press conference that there are two 'probable' cases of swine flu in two Connecticut communities. Meanwhile, two students in East Haddam may also have the virus, prompting the school district to close tomorrow.

Rell says the cases involve adults in Stratford and Southbury who recently returned from Mexico. They are between 20 and 50 years of age. Samples are being sent to the Centers for Disease Control for testing.

News Channel 8 has also learned that two school age siblings that recently returned from Mexico are ill, but we don't know yet if they do in fact have swine flu. One is an elementary school student and the other is a middle school student.

As a precaution, the district will be closing the schools so that they can be thoroughly cleaned.

There are three schools in the district: East Haddam Elementary School, Nathan Hale-Ray Middle School, and Nathan Hale-Ray High School.

The Centers for Disease Control said today that the number of cases of swine flu in the United States has jumped to 64.
