Groton (WTNH) - Tough economic times have people searching for any bargain they can get. For some that means ditching the mall and heading to thrift stores instead.

It's not Black Friday - but it is Friday and some folks already started their holiday shopping.

"Best place to come - Good Will," said Janet Rose of New London. "Ninety nine cents, I mean, you can't beat it."

Janet comes to Good Will for good deals.

"I seen this at Wal-Mart for like $30. I got this for $6," Janet said.

Janet filled her cart and her Christmas list.

"The Good Will's a good place to come," she said.

There's jewelry, electronics and of course, clothes. And if you're looking for an unique gift, you just might find it.

"My brother-in-law collects Kennedy, everything Kennedy," said Jim Madeira of Stonington.

The downside? You don't usually get a box, warranties or instructions but you do get a bargain.

"Really you don't need the box because what ya gonna do is you're gonna take it home and you're gonna use it anyway and what happens to the box. You discard it," Jim said.

Either way, it's a different kind of best buy for more and more people.
