New Haven (WTNH) - New Haven's reborn police narcotics unit is getting a financial boost from a community group, as the South of Humphrey Street Block Watch Association is hosting a fundraiser tonight at Christopher Martin's Restaurant in New Haven.

The group is raising money for the units' two new police dogs, named Nia and Orvis, which still requre training to sniff-out drugs.

"We had a long conversation with the Chief, and got his ideas of what a canine unit should be, and they are very different of what happened in the past," said Lisa Siedlarz, president of the SOHU Block Watch Association. "You have two loving Yellow Labs who will sniff-out drugs, and it's a good thing!"

If you're looking to help with donations, send an email to Association President Lisa Siedlarz: lisa@sohunewhaven.org
