New Haven (WTNH) - A tenant came home to find slaughtered chickens in his bed, and dead fish and blood splattered on his floor. He wants to know how the dead animals ended up in his apartment in the first place.

Police went to the apartment and now they are investigating a scene that could be right out of a horror movie.

"On TV you can't smell how foul it smells in here," said Vanessa Watkins of New Haven.

Vanessa Watkins said the disgusting scene is retaliation against her brother Philip who rents the room inside this apartment house on Lombard street.

"It's deliberate," she said.

"And like who would do this? The kids' toys are here; you can clearly see there is a kid who shares this room," said Philip.

"When my brother called, I told him not to touch anything," said Vanessa. "I said this is some TV stuff, this is out of a movie, I was just appalled."

She claimed the landlord is behind it all. Philip told News Channel 8 off camera that the landlord wants him out because he wasn't paying this month's rent but was supposedly moving June 1st.

News Channel 8 tried to contact the landlord; no calls have been returned.

"And he thinks this is how he is going to handle it in our country, we have an eviction process and that's the process that needs to happen," said Philip.

Vanessa said this is more than just a dispute; it's a health and safety issue for the other people living in the building and someone needs to be held accountable.

"It's just disgusting," she said.

The tenant's family called the health department and animal control who she hopes will investigate the matter.

Tonight the tenant and his baby are staying somewhere else.
