New Haven (WTNH) - The city of New Haven breaks ground Tuesday on a small wind turbine project at Long Wharf.
These are small wind turbines that go on top of a tall tower or home, not the big ones that look like giant windmills out in the midwest or other parts of the country. The idea is to harness the wind and see if this area of New Haven Harbor can generate clean energy and save money.
This demonstration project as it is being called will include three of these small wind turbines.
One will be in New Haven at the visitors center at Long Wharf. A second will be in Stonington at the Pine Point School on Barnes Road.
There will also be two more sites around the state, more than likely inland.
The project is part of the state's Clean Energy Fund project to find ways to generate energy cleanly and cheaply.
The Clean Energy Fund's project will cost half a million dollars. They will test the turbines for a year.
