New Haven (WTNH) - A car break-in in New Haven has put a woman's business in jeopardy. Someone took off with her DJ equipment. And, she's Counting on 8 in hopes that it can be recovered.

DJ Loren Jefferson had just finished working a charity event for free. She now fears she'll pay the price of lost business because of what she calls ruthless car thieves.

At first, Jefferson's story seems like a typical car break in.

"My radio was cracked and throw in the back," she said.

But the thieves didn't stop there; they popped the trunk and stole equipment for Jefferson''s DJ business; taking CD players, turn tables and over 500 music CD's.

Cox: "Without this stuff are you in business?"
Jefferson: "I'm not in business; I have nothing and I have two gigs this weekend. I have a wedding and a private formal to do. I don't know what I'm going to do."

Jefferson is Counting on 8 hoping her story can help track down equipment in time for a wedding she's set to do this weekend.

Talking about what she lost brings her to tears.

"It's something I love to do; all my friends, everyone knows me as a DJ cause of how long I've been doing it," she said. "I just really want my equipment back."

The car was parked in an apartment lot along Whalley Avenue. Police report no increase of car break-ins in the Westville Area but last year the city posted a 12 percent jump in car break-ins.

In this case, the thieves left behind bibles Jefferson uses for church work.

Now, she's putting faith in the New Haven community.

"I want to find my equipment, I know it's in the area," Jefferson said. "I hope if anyone knows anything they will contact police."

If you know of the whereabouts of Jefferson's DJ equipment, please contact the New Haven authorities at 203-946-7560.
