More than 800 nursing home workers at 8 Connecticut nursing homes are poised to strike.

Members of District 1199, New England Health Care Employees Union, have authorized sending strike notices. The deadline is May 20th at 6am.

A major sticking point for the union - health insurance premiums.

"The givebacks employers are demanding would make health insurance premiums so expensive that none of our members could afford it for their children," said Almena Thompson, Vice President of the NEHCEU, District 1199.

The strike would impact facilities in Ansonia, Colchester, Glastonbury, Hartford, Meriden, two in Windsor and Winsted.
