Viewer's tip helps nab robbery suspect

New Haven (WTNH) - Police have found the suspect that they believe robbed a New Haven bank Friday afternoon after a television news viewer called in a tip.

Robert Herman, 60, is believed to have entered Bank of America on 100 Amity Road while carrying a bag and handed the teller a note asking for the money. He then left on foot with the bag and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Before the robbery at Bank of America, Herman was spotted on TD Bank North's surveillance cameras at 123 Amity Road.

Herman was found the EconoLodge Motel at 100 Pond Lilly Ave. on Saturday. The viewer had said that Herman was a regular patron of the motel.

Herman was charged accordingly and arrested without incident. A search and seizure warrant was obtained for numerous items inside the motel room, including a black bag and glove that matched those seen in surveillance videos during the robbery.
