Wethersfield (WTNH) - The State of Connecticut is cutting back on the use of cars and trucks in the state fleet as part of the Governor’s effort to save money.
The Governor toured the state fleet facility, in Wethersfield, Tuesday. Over 100 vehicles have been pulled from state car pools, in the past few months, following her order to save money.
“They’ve been turned over in the last four months by dozens of agencies,” Governor Jodi Rell said. “[It’s] to help us cut the fleet by about 10 percent and it certainly helps every little bit.”
This doesn’t reach that goal, as there are about 4,300 cars in the state fleet. But, the Department of Administrative Services is estimating that by pulling 100 off the road, and eventually auctioning them off, the state will save about $40,000 per month.
As the Governor said, every little bit helps. But, with a ballooning deficit, these kinds of things will never close that gap.
