NYBERG: Change the world before bedtime

(WTNH) -- Josh Chalmers' personal and professional motto is "Change the world before bedtime." And there is now a children's book with that title.

Chalmers, from Madison, was raised by two loving parents who adopted him. He had big dreams as a kid. As a young adult he volunteered at a teen center named after a young man who died, and it ended up being a game changer for him. He saw so many kids that needed help and he has devoted his live to doing that, helping and giving back.

Fast forward he now; he has a book out for children and a Marinara Sauce. Both products are sold so that he can give back too. Down the road it's his hope that a magical sustainable place called Arcadia will be built in which people will play and live and work, all sustainable and all eco-friendly. He is CEO of his company called Earth 2.

Ann: "We have a book and we have some sauce, let's start with the book, I've known you for a bit now and Change The World Before Bedtime is just an awesome line, what does that mean and where did it come from?"

Josh: "It's my personal and professional mission statement and probably about ten years ago, which was the time that I was starting to volunteer at that teen center, even a little bit long I just started feeling like, changing the world better than saving the world, because I don't believe in the heroics of it. I believe that it's everybody's responsibility and it should be habit to be kind to your neighbors and to help out and to donate in your community."

Ann: "Somebody is going to listen to this and say this person isn't real, you're not a real person, 'cause nobody wants to give give, give, give, and make the world a better place.

Josh: "Well, part of my point is that, I think people get panicked that it has to be about money and it really isn't, so for me it's always been about the easiest thing; time and energy and a little bit of kindness and love and the skills that you've nurtured in yourself which are easy to share... Sometimes you can talk a lot about big dreams, but if there's nothing tangible, it's hard to keep the momentum going. So I wanted some real things, products, and this book -- I remember when I was 8 years old, reading 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' under a tree when my parents had a house on Leetes Island, I wanted to write a children's book and so it just took another 40 years to figure it out."

He wrote the book with two other Connecticut authors.

The "Not Your Mama's Marinara Sauce" is bottled in New Haven.

All of this is leading up to what he hopes will be the building of a place called Arcadia where people will live and work and play in ways you may not have thought of.
