NEWTOWN, Conn. (AP) — A 48-vote margin between the Republican and Democratic candidates for a Connecticut House of Representatives seat in Newtown has triggered the state's only recount.

Republican Mitch Bolinsky won 5,748 votes in the 106th district race and Democrat Lisa Romano received 5,700 votes.

The News Times reports (http://bit.ly/Ub2oxu ) that Democratic Registrar LeReine Frampton says officials are verifying numbers and about 1,400 absentee ballots. Frampton says officials hope to have a result before next Wednesday's deadline.

The automatic recount was triggered because Bolinsky's apparent margin of victory was within 0.5 percent of votes cast.

Romano said she did not authorize a concession on her behalf by campaign representatives to Bolinsky.
