HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Killingly state Rep. Mae Flexer is being honored for her work combating domestic violence.

The Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence has named Flexer, a Democrat, as its so-called Coalition Crusader. The organization is also honoring the Connecticut Police Chiefs Association at its annual recognition breakfast planned Friday in Cromwell.

The event is known as the First 100 Plus Breakfast, which has recognized male leaders from across the state for their efforts in raising awareness about the availability and access to domestic violence services.

Flexer, who represents the towns of Killingly, Plainfield and Sterling. She has been the chairwoman of the Speaker's Task Force on Domestic Violence and pushed for new laws such as an electronic monitoring program for high-risk offenders and funding for round-the-clock staffing at domestic violence shelters.
