HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy says he's being patient as the legislature tries to hammer out a bipartisan gun control package even though the public wants lawmakers to act now.

Malloy told reporters Wednesday he knows he must "wait a lot" as lawmakers seek a deal on legislation. He said the people of Connecticut have waited long enough.

Gun control advocates gathered at the Capitol to lobby legislators. They arrived two days after the National Rifle Association lobbied against what some gun rights supporters call burdensome and constitutionally questionable legislation.

Thursday marks three months since the shooting deaths of 20 children and six educators at a Newtown school.

Gun control activists said Connecticut should have been the first state to enact tough new restrictions.
